Structured Care. Individualized Healing.
Sunshine Lane's STRTP program is designed to meet youth where they are — providing the structure, safety, and therapeutic support they need to stabilize, grow, and move forward.
What Is an STRTP?
A Short-Term Residential Therapeutic Program (STRTP) is the highest level of licensed group home care in California. Unlike traditional group homes, STRTPs are required to provide mental health treatment services as part of their core program — making them appropriate for youth with complex trauma histories, behavioral health needs, or those transitioning from higher levels of care.
Sunshine Lane Supportive Housing is a fully licensed and certified STRTP under California's Community Care Licensing Division, operating in full compliance with Title 22 regulations. Our program serves youth ages 13–18 placed through county child welfare and juvenile justice agencies across Southern California.
Our Therapeutic Approach
Everything we do is grounded in trauma-informed care — a framework that recognizes the widespread impact of trauma and integrates knowledge about trauma into every policy, procedure, and interaction.
Trauma-Informed Framework
Our staff are trained in trauma-informed principles and evidence-based practices. We prioritize physical and emotional safety, trustworthiness, peer support, collaboration, empowerment, and cultural sensitivity in every interaction.
Mental Health Integration
As an STRTP, we coordinate with licensed mental health providers to ensure each resident receives the therapeutic services outlined in their treatment plan — including individual therapy, group sessions, and crisis support.
Strength-Based Planning
We focus on what youth can do, not just what they've been through. Every individualized plan is built around each resident's strengths, interests, and goals — not just their challenges.
Cultural Responsiveness
We honor the cultural backgrounds, identities, and lived experiences of every resident. Our program is designed to be inclusive, affirming, and responsive to the diverse communities we serve across Southern California.
Daily Life at Sunshine Lane
Predictable routines and a home-like environment are the foundation of healing. Here's what a typical day looks like for our residents.
Wake-up, hygiene routine, and a shared breakfast — starting the day with consistency and connection.
Residents attend school on-site or in the community, with academic support and tutoring available.
Structured activities, life skills groups, recreational time, and individual or group therapy sessions.
Shared dinner, free time, homework support, and wind-down routines that promote healthy sleep.
Community outings, recreational activities, family visits (as appropriate), and enrichment programming.
